Is Gorowa up to the task?

EDITOR — It is slowly dawning on me that Warriors coach Ian Gorowa is failing to improve his squad after the two games that we have seen so far.

While I would not want to be a prophet of doom, just like in the previous Chan editions we might return home early.

The level of play by our national soccer team is far from exciting.

Dynamos forward Simba Sithole was struggling for goals in his local club during the second half of last season.

If I am not mistaken, he scored only two goals in the last half of the season.

Why Gorowa and his technical team decided to merit a forward who was not scoring goals instead of other forwards like Triangle’s Misheck Mburayi and Njabulo Ncube baffles the mind.

While I would not want to blame Simba Sithole alone for the poor showings, other players like Ali Sadiki, Donald Ngoma and Tawanda Muparati must prove their worth to the national team.

Why Gorowa continues to play Milton Ncube at left back when the player is an attacking midfielder is another area of concern.

We have Augustine Mbara who is at home in that role.

Again, I would have expected after the Morocco game, that Gorowa would bench some of the players who were off colour during that match.

The players who are worth any special mention are the defensive quartet of Hardlife Zvirekwi, captain Partson Jaure, Eric Chipeta and goalkeeper George Chigova.

In the do-or-die encounter against the Burkinabes on Sunday I would expect the whole team to up their game as we are in need of nothing short of a victory.

We still can qualify for the second round if we can up our game.

Papa Lapa,

Glen Norah
