BULAWAYO - The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has dragged two Bulawayo taxi companies to court for owning radio cable systems without valid licences.
Magistrate Gladmore Mushove banned Umtshiniwami and DPS Cabs from using their radio frequencies meant for taxi operations.
It is in the state’s case that on September 25 Potraz inspector Mufundisi Moyo undertook examination of radio telecommunication installations in Bulawayo at Umtshiniwami premises after noticing a very high installed frequency system.
The system was used by the company’s taxi operations and Potraz gave uMtshiniwami manager Forward Matare a service termination order notice to produce a licence which authorises them to use the equipment within seven days.
On December 3 Potraz followed up the matter and Matare failed to produce the licence.
Moyo wrote a notice of confiscating the Motorola Radio and an Icom.
The equipment will be produced in court as evidence on January 30 as the company is suspected of breaching Postal and Telecommunication act chapter 12:05.
Similar inspection was conducted at DPS Security premises after Moyo noticed a high frequency system installed was used for the operation of its cabs.
Potraz issued a service termination order notice for the company to produce a licence within seven days which they failed to release.
Moyo confiscated an HYT TC 500 Radio which will be produced in court as proof.
