HARARE - Striking Zimbabwe cricket players are hoping the forthcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) executive board meeting will help break their impasse with Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC).

The players have been at loggerheads with ZC since last year and a series of meetings with board chairperson Peter Chingoka have failed to break the deadlock.

The striking players want ZC to pay them their outstanding match and appearances fees from last season.

The strike has seen ZC postpone the domestic franchise season as the players have have vowed not to take part unless they are paid their dues.

With the ICC executive board meeting to be held in Dubai on January 28 around the corner, Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor is hoping that the meeting will be able to end the impasse.

“We are now waiting for the ICC meeting in Dubai. We are positive that the situation will be rectified so that we can get on with our business and prepare for the World Twenty20,” Taylor told the Daily News.

“Individually, we are practicing but we hope we will be able to regroup as a team once something positive comes up.”
