HARARE - Kumabhebhi founders Clare Nyakujara and Cindy Munyavi will celebrate the first anniversary of their girls-only concert today at the Book Café in a performance meant to mark 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
Though Kumabhebhi concerts are the preserve of female performers, tomorrow’s show will include male artistes in the spirit of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
Clare told the Daily News that the fact that they will be celebrating their anniversary during a period when the world reflects on the scourge of gender-based violence has made it timely to involve male artistes.
“The theme is Love Life, Love Your Woman and the show will be graced by ExQ, Stunner, Leonard Mapfumo, Tatenda Mahachi, Taurai Mandebvu, BaShupi and many others,” said The Other Four lead vocalist.
“In this show the men are taking centre stage in preaching the gospel of fighting against domestic violence.
“All we are saying as team Kumabhebhi is as women let’s come together and learn to have fun, share, and stick together in hard times and we will be fine,” she said.
Clare is happy with the way the Kumabhebhi concerts have flourished over the past years.
“The first Kumabhebhi was held in November last year to showcase Jazz and R ‘n’ B. The turnout was awesome as most women out there were very supportive,” added Clare.
“Of course there have been ups and downs and it has been a lot of hard work to bring other female artistes.
“The show has managed to bring on board the likes of Diana Samkange, Jean Masters, and Edith WeUtonga as guest artistes. We are looking forward to many more over the next year. Kumabhebhi has also seen itself move around to different venues so as to attract more audiences. We hope it grows and conquers new places and cities and even countries,” she said.
