HARARE - After Sunday’s 3-0 thumping of Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Zimbabwe champions Dynamos should have their sights set on their possible opponents in the next round of the African Champions League.
The Glamour Boys turned on the style in the second half scoring three goals through Washington Pakamisa’s brace and newboy Masimba Mambare.
DeMbare virtually have one leg in the first round qualifier after Sunday’s destruction of the Botswana champions.
Calisto Pasuwa and his men must now only avoid a capitulation in the second leg in Gaborone this weekend to seal their passage into the next round.
It is in this first round where DeMbare are likely to get some resistance as they are likely to face Nigerian champions Kano Pillars or AS Vita of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
AS Vita are favourites to book their first round berth after running out 3-1 winners from the first leg played in Kinshasa at the weekend.
The Congolese champions got themselves in front when Firmin Mubele Ndombe scored in the 11th minute but Pillars would soon level matters through midfielder Rabiu Ali in the 20th minute.
Guy Lusadisu Basisila restored AS Vita's lead in the 34th minute to ensure that the home side went into the halftime break 2-1 up.
The Nigerian champions’ hopes of finding the equaliser crumbled early in the second half when midfielder Bello Musa Kofarmata received his marching orders for a second yellow card.
With a man advantage, AS Vita took the initiative and were soon in the driving seat when Lema Mabidi scored the home side’s third goal in the 56th minute.
Although the score line appears to be like a one-sided affair, it was not all plain sailing for the DRC champions as Pillars had numerous opportunities to score more than the one goal they got.
This coming weekend’s return leg in Nigeria could be a tricky encounter as Pillars are buoyed by the away goal they scored in Kinshasa.
To progress to the first round, Pillars only need a 2-0 win and they will go through on the away goals rule.
This means the tie is still delicately poised and any of the two can still progress to be Dynamos’ first round opponents.
