HARARE - A controversial exhibition opened in Harare on Wednesday dubbed Object of Desire showcasing the human body in its natural form.
The exhibition is by Darius Mutamba, a final year student at the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).
In attendance was German Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ulrich Klöckner, poet Chirikure Chirikure, staffers and students from CUT.
The exhibition has 30 images which were described by Mutamba as his attempt to draw mankind’s attention to the nude human form and encourage debate and appreciation on it.
Chirikure Chirikure who was the guest of honour said, “This exhibition is an attempt to put a living energy into physical form. The naked body is indeed an object of desire. Imagine making a naked person stand in First Street, the emotions and reactions that will come out of it, there will be complex and complicated responses.
“What I personally found touching was that Darius did not stick to one art form. He uses photography, prints, textile, mixed media, and drawings to illustrate his art. It shows how versatile and committed he is to his work,” said the renowned poet.
The exhibition will run until the week ends.
