BULAWAYO - Amakhosi Cultural Centre has created a film club that will provide filmmakers and movie fans a platform to interact.
The initiative, that will involve weekly film screenings is spearheaded by the Bulawayo arts organisation to develop the capacity of the local film industry and service television stations that the government has promise to licence.
Amakhosi film screening manager Farai Rwizi is excited by the new initiative.
“I think if government’s plans to open more television channels come to fruition, then it means as filmmakers, we will be having a challenge of meeting increased demand,” Rwizi told the Daily News.
“For us it won’t be good to see foreign productions dominating local television stations yet there are many filmmakers in the country.”
According to Rwizi, the film screenings will be done once-a-week.
“The film screenings series will take place once every Thursday at Amakhosi Cultural Centre.
Each week, there will be one film to be screened twice — at 3pm and 6pm.
The film screenings are set to avail local filmmakers a platform to showcase their works to the community,” said Amakhosi film screening manager.
Rwizi, a second-year film student at Amakhosi Arts Academy added that film club’s main aim is to develop the local film viewership, while at the same time building the capacity of filmmakers in the industry.
“The club aims to achieve these goals by building networks amongst filmmakers and providing production support to film projects,” he said.
