BULAWAYO - A 20-year-old teacher from Longwe Primary School in rural Bubi has been remanded in custody for sodomising 10 pupils in separate incidents.
Nkosiyazi Sibanda appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Collet Ncube facing 17 charges of aggravated indecent assault and was remanded in custody to February 21.
Sibanda, who pleaded guilty to the charge, started sodomising pupils last year and would give them money and other goodies and food to buy their silence.
Asked by the magistrate why he had committed the offence, Sibanda said it was a mistake and he did not intend to do it again.
“In March 2012 I met a man and two women who offered to help me get a job since the organisation that used to pay my fees could no longer do so,” he said.
Sibanda said the man and two women forced him to drink a concoction.
“They injected me and left me at Kudzanai Bus Terminus in Gweru. I was dizzy at that instant, I felt pain on my organ for two months and one of my testicles would jerk and would involuntarily ejaculate.”
Sibanda said he then realised he had acquired homosexual tendencies.
“My genes changed, during the time I had a girlfriend but lost interest in her as I was now attracted to the males,” he said.
“I only realised that I had sodomised a minor after I had finished because I was in some sort of a trance when I performed the acts.”
Targeting young boys aged between eight years to 13, Sibanda would lure them into his room by asking them to do favours such as polishing his shoes and making the fire for him.
Sibanda’s luck ran out when he sexually abused an eight-year-old boy who reported the matter to his parents.
Soon after the report, the rest of the boys confessed that the teacher had also been sodomising them, leading to his arrest.
Medical reports stated the boys suffered severe anal injuries resulting in loose reflexes, implying the elasticity that holds the stool was broken.
