HARARE - Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa has implored the electorate to vote him into the Premier Soccer League chairmanship office promising a more open door policy.
Mubaiwa goes head to head with incumbent Twine Phiri of CAPS United in tomorrow’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) polls at Cresta Lodge in Harare.
“The clubs have been seeing how things are handled and I m saying we want to change the way the game is being run,” said Mubaiwa yesterday.
“This issue of the SuperSport deal where no club knows the contents of the deal will become a thing of the past.
“Obviously sponsorship is one of the key areas we want to work on. Yes, it will not come overnight but if we work together we can change football in Zimbabwe.”
At the PSL Special Board Meeting two weeks ago, the clubs voted against adopting a clause on the league’s constitution that would have prevented Mubaiwa from contesting the election.
Mubaiwa will, however, face stiff competition from Phiri, who took up office in 2010 after succeeding Tapiwa Matangaidze.
Phiri is angling for another term and believes he has done a lot under an instable economy.
Under his watch, Delta Beverages came on board as the league’s title sponsors though their catsle Lager brand.
Other sponsors who have bankrolled the PSL include NetOne, who sponsor the annual Charity Shield and BancABC, who bankroll the knockout competition the Sup8r Cup.
Mbada Diamonds have also come into football in a big way unveiling a US$1 million knockout tournament.
