HARARE - Disgruntled Zimbabwe national women's football players have vowed to remain in camp in protest over unpaid allowances from the country's association.
The Daily News understands that the cash-strapped Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) offered a paltry $25 allowance fee per player on Thursday which the players rejected.
Players who spoke to the Daily News on condition of anonymity said they are owed a total of $930 each and called the offer from Zifa a "mockery".
“We are owed $930, but they offered us only $25 which to us is a mockery. So we have decided that as players we will remain in camp until they settle our dues," the player said.
The players castigated Zifa for neglecting them at a time they should be focusing on their next qualifying match against Zambia.
The Mighty Warriors who have been in camp over the last month in preparation of the African Championships qualifiers against Botswana, have since rejected the money Zifa extended to them.
Efforts to get a comment from Mavis Gumbo, the Zimbabwe Women's Football boss were fruitless by the time of going to print last night, as her mobile number was unreachable.
