HARARE - Allied Legal Aid Society has been hauled before the Harare Civil Court for failing to pay $52.

The firm offers advice and legal protection to individuals and corporates.

Crispen Mugumbate claimed the firm is failing to pay him back the money he paid for a service the company failed to render.

Mugumbate told magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi that the firm promised to pay him back the money but so far the company has not been forthcoming.

“I went to the firm in need of help and I paid $32 for their service,” said Mugumbate.

“I later deposited $20 into their account making it $52 but they never rendered the service. I asked for a refund and the company promised to pay the money as soon as possible but up to now they have not paid anything,” he said.

Allied Legal Aid Society representatives were absent to respond to the claim but the secretary of the firm had signed the return of service papers acknowledging that they had been summoned to court.

Magistrate Siwardi gave a default judgment. She ordered the legal firm to pay Mugumbate $62 inclusive of cost of suit by the end of this month.
