HARARE - Zimbabwean long distance athlete Mike Fokoroni says he will be satisfied with a top three finish at the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon set for Cape Town tomorrow.

Fokoroni is one of a number of Zimbabwean athletes taking part at the annual ultra-marathon that draws athletes from as far as Kenya, USA, Great Britain, amongst other.

“I don’t want to talk much, what I know is that I am dedicated to doing my best and I will be satisfied with a top three finish,” Fokoroni told the Daily News from South Africa yesterday.

“I’m very pleased with my preparations for this race.  I was training very hard because after Two Oceans the next race is the Comrades Marathon.

“So my training has been covering the Comrades as well.”

Apart from Fokoroni, who represented Zimbabwe at the Beijing Olympics, other locals expected to battle for podium places include Stephen Muzhingi and Collen Makaza.

Three-time Comrades winner Muzhingi comes into tomorrow’s race having failed to perform as well as he would have preferred last year, due to a severe calf.

But Brendon Bals Lawson, a South African runner who is managing Muzhingi, was upbeat the Zimbabwean would do well this year.

“Stephen you are amazing champion go out and get what's yours you have the heart of a lion and will not give up. Remember we share the same first marathon time and now the same manager,” he tweeted.
