GWERU - Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino feels Dynamos have lost their aura of invincibility and are more vulnerable this season than in previous years.
Nyikadzino was speaking after his side, returning to the Castle Premiership for the first time since 2010, beat DeMbare 1-0 at Ascot Stadium in a midweek match.
The Air Force of Zimbabwe side put on a brave fight against the defending champions, who looked clueless all afternoon as they struggled to deal with the Chapungu high tempo attacks.
Nyikadzino said his team took a cue from ZPC Kariba who showed character to beat dynamos 1-0 in the second week of the season at the National Sports Stadium.
“After ZPC Kariba beat dynamos we said to ourselves if another team coming from Division One can beat them why can’t we also do it?” he said.
“They are champions of course but they can be beaten. We had a plan on how to attack and defend, we made sure that there is no space for them to play their normal game.”
Dynamos put up their worst performance of the season so far as they lacked any cohesion with their strikes Anesu Gondo and Farai Mupasiri starved of any services from their midfielders.
The defending champions greatly missed the services of forward Washington Pakamisa, who was unavailable for selection as he was a ttending a family bereavement.
Calisto Pasuwa summed it up by saying this was their worst game as they never really turned up to the challenge posed by Chapungu.
"This is one of our worst matches. We didn’t play as a unit and we also missed Pakamisa heavily as we did not have a leader in upfront. We need to work on our weaknesses in the next home. We want to win at all costs so that we remain on course," said Pasuwa.
Dynamos arrived shortly before the match after having departed Harare late due to some logistical problems which the authorities refused to divulge.
The Glamour Boys have a tricky encounter in their next match as they take on Buffaloes at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow hoping to bounce back to winning ways.
The Mutare-based soldiers will be high on confidence for tomorrow’s match after piping a 0-1 win over Harare City in their last visit to the capital on Wednesday.
