HARARE - There are disgruntlements in the Zimbabwe national women’s football camp following revelations that members of the technical team pocketed a large portion of their allowances while players got meagre offerings.
The Mighty Warriors take on Zambia in tomorrow’s African Women’s Championship final qualifier second leg in Lusaka.
Zimbabwe is trailing 1-0 from the first leg played in Harare two weeks ago and preparations for the second leg were disrupted after players boycotted training on Tuesday.
After several meetings with the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) officials, the players were on promised a $150 allowance for the entire month they were in camp preparing for the two legs against Zambia.
However, the Daily News understands the travelling party only received $100 each while the non-travelling reserves received a paltry $35 each with the technical team making off with the difference.
"We were all supposed to get $150 but the technical team pocketed the rest of the money,” said one player who requested anonymity.
“The travelling players were given $100 each but those who remained behind got $35. We don't know why they decided to pocket our money for themselves," added the player.
The Mighty Warriors, who travelled to Lusaka by road on Thursday morning have an uphill task to go through to the African Women Championship finals in Namibia.
Rosemary Mugadza’s side needs a brave performance to overturn a 1-0 deficit they suffered at the hands of She-polopolo last week.
