HARARE - Zimbabwe's karate team that took part at South Africa Shin Kyokushin National Championships held in Durban lived up to expectations after winning six different medals over the weekend.
Kelly Mtisi was the only Zimbabwean to win gold medal in the men Under-80kg category with the four silver medal coming from Tinashe Matika, Phumulani Maphosa , Brian Chiringa , Admire Chingozhoro in the men Under-50, 70, 80 and open Men respectively.
Shadreck Chigombe won the only bronze medal in the Under-70 section.
“The conduct of our delegation was remarkable throughout the trip as they were admired by other delegates from other countries and provinces of South Africa,” So-Kyokushin Union chief instructor Sensei Samson Muripo told the Daily News.
Muripo thanked transport and logistics operator, Morris Musekiwa and CarSafe for availing sponsorship to make the trip a success.
“A special thank you to all who made efforts and commitment, in cash and kind, to make this trip a success and we look forward to your continued support,” added the former world middleweight champion.
Other Zimbabwe karatekas who travelled to South Africa were Lovemore Nyamutswa, Kudakwashe Katiyo, Naison Chituwa and Sly Karidzamimba
