HARARE - Popular hip-hop artiste Tehn Diamond will make his debut performance at “The Word Garden” bi-monthly poetry event to be held at Old Mutual Theatre at Alliance Francaise tonight.
Tehn Diamond will share the stage with a riveting line-up of leading poets who include U-Mind, Momo the Empress, Barbra Breeze, Aspya and So Profound.
The event will also reserve slots for guest poets who have not been included on the original line-up.
Music at the poetry event, sponsored by Magamba Network, will be provided by DJ Naida who will share the stage with San Sebb, the resident DJ at Alliance Francaise.
Tafadzwa Sharaunga, the Magamba Network spokesperson, has promised to deliver an exceptional event.
“The fifth Word Garden edition will be the last one before it takes a break to make way for the Shoko Festival in September. It will be a memorable night that poetry enthusiasts cannot afford to miss,” he told the Daily News.
Tonight’s “Word Garden” edition is part of over 400 poetry readings and activities taking place in 35 countries around the world under the auspices of the World Poetry Movement which was founded by directors from 37 International Poetry Festivals who gathered in Medellin, Colombia in July 2011.
Late mbira star Chiwoniso Maraire and renowned poet Chirikure Chirikure performed at the launch in Medellin three years ago while protest poet and cultural activist Sam Monro, better known as Comrade Fatso, was elected to the coordinating committee of the World Poetry Movement this year.
Fernando Rendon, a member of World Poetry Movement’s coordinating committee says: “We invite international poetry festivals, poetry organisations, the poets, workshops, schools, musicians, artistes, actors, filmmakers, dancers, painters, and organisations and poets that are members of the World Poetry Movement to celebrate from July 1 to July 30, 2014 through thousands of mass poetry readings and interventions in open and closed public spaces to create a path of unity for the world’s spiritual energy.”
