HARARE - Dennis Rusoso, who played the role of Mayaya in the community theatre Sabhuku Vharazipi 2, is starring in a new film Mayaya the Seed of Corruption which is set to hit the big screen next month.

The screenplay was done by David Dzatsunga, who helped write Sabhuku Vharazipi 2. The film will be premiered on September 27 at Ster-Kinekor in Harare.

“The Mayaya film does not include the main actors in Sabhuku Vharazipi such as David Mubaiwa, Wellington Chindare and Kumbirai Chikonye and this project is much older than Sabhuku Vharazipi as I wrote it long back,” Dzatsunga said.

“The film revolves around the scourge of corruption, the religious phase currently characterising the country, and those who make money through using God’s name and engage in blood sacrifices to bolster their powers and influence.”

Dzatsunga told the Daily News that he believe in nurturing talent.

“I taught Rusoso in high school and I know he has what it takes to be one of the best actors in the country,” he said.

“He played a small role in Sabhuku Vharazipi 2 but he instantly became a darling of many people in the country. He has a lot of potential, hence we gave him a platform where he stars as the main character.”

Mubaiwa and Chindare, who played the role of Sabhuku Vharazipi and Chairman respectively in the Sabhuku Vharazipi 1 and 2 community theatre, expressed ignorance on the new development.

“We are not aware of it, but if that is the case, we wish them all the best in their endeavours,” Mubaiwa said.

However, the two popular actors said they are putting final touches to Sabhuku Vharazipi 3 which is expected any time this year.
