HARARE - Rising songstress Tariro “Tariro Negitare” Ruzvidzo is relishing tomorrow’s high-profile gig at 7 Arts in which she will share the stage with Zimbabwe music legend Oliver Mtukudzi and South Africa’s Zahara.
Tariro Negitare, a product of the Book Café’s Sistaz Open Mic that has uncovered several top female artistes, believes playing on the same stage with the internationally acclaimed pair will have a positive effect on her budding career.
“It is an honour for me to perform alongside Zahara and Tuku,” Tariro Negitare told the Daily News yesterday.
“The gig will be a learning opportunity for me. I have a lot to learn from the two great musicians.”
The former rhythm guitarist in Edith We Utonga’s Utonga band has, however, promised not to be overawed by the occasion.
“I will do my level best on Friday. This is my first time to share the stage with Zahara, but I have warmed up the stage for Tuku before,” said the Wildfire singer.
Since launching her solo career a couple of years ago, Tariro Negitare has shared the stage with some of Zimbabwe’s finest musicians including Edith weUtonga, Diana Samkange, Dudu Manhenga, Stella Chiweshe, Alick Macheso, Victor Kunonga, Stunner and Ba Shupi.
The Ndinokuda Iwe singer has also shared the stage with international groups like the American band Publish The Quest and Favo and Jamaram from Germany.
Tomorrow’s concert at the 7 Arts, will witness the Zimbabwean launch of Zahara’s latest album Phendula, and marks the South African star’s return to Harare after her last concert in the Zimbabwean capital city early this year.
Chris Musabayana of Ghetto Fabulous Entertainment Company, who is promoting the concert, is delighted to be bringing back the popular South African singer to Harare.
“This is my second show with Zahara and I do not doubt her crowd-pulling capacity. I am expecting more fans compared to the previous show held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) because she now has a second album,” said the Mutare-born promoter.
Zahara’s new album features guest appearances by Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Anele and Neliswa, Mzwakhe Mbuli, Mukengerwa Tresor Riziki, and 2 Face Idibia.
The 25-year-old South African musician commands a huge following in Zimbabwe.
Her collaboration with South Africa-based Zimbabwean DJ George Munetsi on the hit song Incwad’encane made her popularity soar in this country.
Other Zahara songs that Zimbabwean fans sing along to during the South African star’s concerts in Zimbabwe include Lengoma, Loliwe, Destiny, My Guitar, Brand New Day, Shine, Umthwalo, Xa Bendingena Mama, Thekwana, Away and Ndize.
