GABORONE - Zimbabwean midfielder Elvis Meleka, the reigning footballer of the year in Botswana’s top-flight league, has warned his countrymen Dynamos against complacency when the Zimbabwean giants take on his Mochudi Centre Chiefs in the African Champions League.

Dynamos were drawn to play Mochudi in the preliminary round of the Champions League early next year.

Zimbabwean teams generally have a good record against Batswana opposition, and Dynamos are expected to pass the Mochudi test with relative ease.

But Meleka, who played for Harare United and Gunners in Zimbabwe before moving across the border to Botswana, says Mochudi will not be pushovers and DeMbare can underrate them at their own peril.

Dynamos will host the first leg on the weekend of February 7 to 9 before traveling to Botswana two weeks later.

“People forget the fact that Botswana is ranked higher than Zimbabwe in Caf rankings and football is on the up here,” Meleka told the Daily News yesterday.

Most of Meleka’s Mochudi teammates play for the Botswana national side and national age-group teams, and the Zimbabwean believes that experience will come in handy against Dynamos.

“I know Dynamos in and out, we won’t say much, (but) we are going to surprise them,” said the former Gunners anchor-man, who has played in the Champions League before with the 2009 Zimbabwean champions.

Chiefs are left with two league games before breaking for Christmas in Botswana’s be Mobile League, which will resume on January 11.
