EDITOR ? Zesa Holdings acknowledges a letter “Zesa Should Be Competent” by Zesa Client in your January 2, 2014 edition and our response is as follows:

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of Zesa Holdings introduced prepaid meters to empower customers to manage their own consumption and to also alleviate operational challenges associated with billing, re-connection and disconnection of electricity, among others on the part of the power utility.

At the inception of the prepaid metering programme in 2012, there were a few prepaid meter coupon vending points in Harare and Bulawayo.

Now that the prepaid meter installation programme is in full swing countrywide, more dispensing centres have not only been introduced but working hours have been extended as well — especially in major towns — to bring convenience to our valued customers.

ZETDC has a major roll out plan to open more prepaid meter dispensing centres countrywide to ensure that queuing is kept to a minimum.

Plans are already at an advanced stage to open centres in Ruwa, Makoni, Glen View, Kuwadzana, Zengeza and in other related areas while in the Midlands province, vending is already being done in high density suburbs to relieve pressure from the City Centre banking halls.

In Zvishavane, Gweru, Kwekwe, Gokwe, Chivhu and their surrounding areas, business hours have been prolonged as the offices are open every day of the week.

Similarly, in the Matabeleland province, our valued customers are now accessing prepaid meter coupons in 10 revenue halls that include western suburbs of Nkulumane, Nguboyenja and others.

It should also be realised that all prepaid meter vending centres countrywide were open to the public during the festive holidays and operational hours were relaxed to suit the needs of the customers.

However, there was an incident where the system developed a technical fault in Bulawayo early this week causing long queues but the fault was eventually rectified and the power utility coped with the situation.

ZETDC encourages its valued customers countrywide to also consider accessing prepaid meter coupons from satellite or complimentary centres like the high and low density suburbs to avoid congesting the city centre banking halls.

Customers are encouraged to get in touch with general managers or Customer Service Centres in the respective regions and centres should they encounter any challenges.

ZETDC would like to thank Zesa client for showing interest in our services.
