HARARE - Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu is confident his team can finally end Dynamos’ dominance when the two giants clash in the TM Pick n Pay Challenge Cup at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.
The Bulawayo giants last beat DeMbare in 2006 and since then they have played second fiddle to their biggest rivals in the country.
The Zambian coach, who led Highlanders to Mbada Diamonds Cup glory last season, says time has come for Bosso to prevail.
“Our preparations have been going on well for this particular match,” Kaindu told the Daily News.
“This is a cup final and expectations are very high. Every game is different and I think if you have noticed in our previous matches against Dynamos we have been improving with each game.
“We are focused for this match tomorrow (today) and everyone is looking forward to it. Morale is high and all the boys are motivated. I hope we will be smiling at the end of 90 minutes.”
The game will act as the Grand Draw event for the TM Pick n Pay Big Brands Bargain Bonanza Promotion, a retail promotion that has been running at all TM Pick n Pay stores nationwide.
Both teams have announced their strongest possible teams for the inaugural tournament.
Winners of the TM Challenge Cup are set to win $60 000 while the runners up will get $50 000.
The Glamour Boys are coming from a 2-0 win over Chiredzi in a mid-week fixture. They also powered their way to the final of the Net One Wallet Cup after they defeated How Mine 2-0 in the semi-finals last weekend at Mandava.
Kaindu admitted the match won’t be easy.
“We are not treating them lightly. They are sitting at the top of the log in the league race and they are playing some good football. We respect them as our opponents but at some point records needs to be broken,” said the Zambian.
Bosso find themselves trailing Dynamos by three points in the Castle Premiership after playing a goalless draw against Moses Chunga’s Buffaloes On Wednesday.
Meanwhile, DeMbare have already made it clear they are taking the game seriously and want to extend their dominance over Bosso.
“This is a cup final and everyone wants to win,” said Dynamos midfielder Stephen Alimenda earlier this week at the launch of the match.
“We are preparing knowing that this is a money game. This is a different game and we are fully aware of the threat posed by Highlanders.
“We don’t want to look much into the history book. We might have been beating them in the previous years but it does not guarantee us to be complacent. We should be geared up for the match.”
