HARARE - South Africa-based Zimbabwean dancehall star Thabani “Buffalo Souljah” Ndlovu has lined up an 18-track album that features ex-Brick and Lace star Nailah “Nyla” Thornbourne.
Nyla, who until early last year was the other half of the defunct Jamaican group Brick and Lace, collaborated with the award-winning Buffalo Souljah on the song Born to be Wild.
The Bulawayo-born dancehall artiste told the Daily News that his sixth album titled Da Chosen 1 will be released next month.
“The album is a real blast because it carries tracks like Born to be wild that features Jamaican star Nyla,” he said.
“Some singles that form part of the forthcoming album have already attracted a lot of support.”
Buffalo Souljah, who has won five Channel O awards, is hopeful that the new album will finally make him more appreciated in Zimbabwe.
“I am saddened a bit because I am not well-known in my homeland, even though I have made a name for myself on the international stage.
“I have been a regular feature on DStv channels like MTV Base, Channel O and Trace. I just hope that the Da Chosen 1 will change my fortunes in Zimbabwe,” said the dancehall star.
The lack of appreciation in his land of birth has not discouraged Buffalo Souljah from helping fellow Zimbabwean artistes make international breakthroughs.
Two years ago Buffalo Souljah assisted fellow Zimbabwean musician Enock “Nox” Guni who is also based in South Africa to get his video of the song I Love You get accepted by DStv music channels.
“This is just the beginning of our concerted effort to wave the Zimbabwean flag high on the international music scene,” said the 33-year-old musician.
The Staera Inonyengesa singer’s forthcoming album will include tracks such as Mo fire, Conquering Lion, Misunderstood, Turnup , Chibhambi Chabhadhara, Kana Ndafa, Kumanginde and Staera Inonyengesa that features top Angolan singer Cabo Snoop.
