HARARE - Zimbabwe's junior swimming team is in Lusaka, Zambia, were they are scheduled to compete in the African Junior Swimming Championships which kicks today.

The team comprise of Australia-based Robyn Lee and the Durban-based duo of Peter Wetzlar and Roxanne Brown, who are currently training at Westville.

Ratidzo Mutangadura of Highlands Swimming Club in Harare and Liam Davis from Spartans in the capital make up the rest of the team.

The team will be coached by Debbie Wetzlar.

The event only takes place every two years, and gives the swimmers the opportunity to measure their standard against the rest of the continent.

Zimbabwe Aquatic Union president Mary Kloppers is confident that the team will rip medals.

“This is a very dynamic little team we are sending and we believe each one of them will do Zimbabwe proud,” Kloppers told the Daily News this week.

“The tournament is a qualifying event for Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Lee already has qualifying times for the YOG, but we are hoping that a few more in this team will achieve the set times required for qualification.”
