BULAWAYO - After years of living in the shadows of many established artistes, long-time backing vocalist and Bulawayo socialite Rudo Amor Nyoni has finally released a gospel single in preparation for her forthcoming debut album.
Titled 'I Need a Saviour', the single, that features prominent Bulawayo gospel musician Tawanda Denga, has put the 28-year-old Celine Dion sound-alike in the spotlight ever since the song debuted on ZiFM a couple of weeks ago.
Nyoni, who has done backing vocals for many established gospel artistes including the Worship Addicts led by the talented Takesure Zamar Ncube, Abel Choto and Reginald Moyo, told the Daily News recently that the new single is about how God comes to the rescue of his children during times of suffering.
“I have gone through some very difficult and hopeless situations in my life but the good God has over and over again intervened and resuscitated me,” said the Bulawayo gospel artiste who started singing seriously when she was 12 years old.
The beautiful singer-cum-model, who is dressed by a Bulawayo clothing label called Shadow, wants those struggling to make a mark in the music industry to be encouraged by how her music career is suddenly shaping up at long last.
“Every day we meet people who have been in the music industry for some time yet they are virtually unknown. This is the year they will be recognised. This is a year of nobodies becoming somebodies in the music industry.
“Not so many people really know about me in music circles because I was a backing vocalist for a long time but this year that will change because of the impact I am set to make,” said Nyoni who is also a model and real estate agent.
A great fan of music legend Oliver Mtukudzi and musician-cum-actor Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana hopes to produce a few albums and do collaborations with fellow Zimbabwean artistes in the course of the year.
Nyoni said she has finally managed to realise her dream of recording because she has maintained a high level of focus.
“When pursuing your dreams as a musician you will meet disc jockeys and producers whose aim is to manipulate and exploit you but if you know what you want to achieve, you should refuse their silly offers and concentrate on your work,” the budding artist said.
