HARARE - Heshi Mfeshi Studio, co-owned by Joe Machingura and urban grooves star Leonard Mapfumo that briefly closed its doors last year, will resume business early next month.
The reopening of the studio at Dolphin House follows the securing of a new business partner Phil Nedzani who is expected to inject much-needed financial resources.
Studio co-director Machingura confirmed the changes at the record label to the Daily News yesterday.
“We are working on something big right now,” said Machingura.
“We have secured a business partner called Phil Nedzani. He is not a musician or producer but he just loves music. He started off as a fan but later got to the stage of helping out artistes financially. So because of this we have engaged him as a business partner,” he said.
Machingura said they closed shop last year because he had other pressing commitments that made it impossible to continue running the entity professionally.
“I could not balance between managing the studio and the other pressing commitments I had. That is why we decided to close the studio,” he said.
Machingura admitted, though, that he could have handled better the communication around the studio’s closure last year.
“The speculations around the closure were fuelled by the fact that I did not properly communicate why I was closing the studio,” he said.
“That is the reason why studio engineer Lazarus “Lazzy T” Chapo decided to move on and start his own studio.”
Machingura also revealed that Heshi Mfeshi has retained all contracted artistes.
“The shutting down of the studio inconvenienced artistes. We have retained our artistes including Shinsoman, Yoz, Yakka, a female DJ from Bulawayo called Mich Diamond and many others,” he said.
