EDITOR — I write to complain over the number of road-blocks police are mounting every morning as people rush to work and school.

Zimbabweans are a time-conscious people and have their day planned ahead of them.

There is nothing wrong with the police mounting road-blocks but if you put these less than 500m apart, then we begin to wonder what they seek to achieve.

Yesterday morning, along Tilcor Road in Zengeza — the road that links Guzha Shopping Centre, popularly known as Chikwanha, and the Chitungwiza industrial sites — there were two such blocks.

There was one at the humps (pamahump) as one turned left towards Chikwanha from Hombarume Road in Zengeza 2 and yet another adjacent New Zengeza 4, again at the humps.

The delay they caused for those who were rushing their children to school, including those travelling elsewhere was very disturbing.

Imagine being signalled to pull off the road, be asked a few questions and then be allowed to proceed only to see yet another road-block a few hundred metres away.

It is worse when you imagine there could be several other stops along the highway to Harare.

There is usually always a road-block just before St Mary’s Police Station as soon as you branch off into the highway.

It appears only the road-block close to Delport Road, mounted by the Highway Patrol unit is orderly.

Just before Maruta Shopping Centre in Hatfield, there is another one, almost always manned by an average of over 10 officers at any given time.

They cause enough confusion by virtue of their number, especially during the morning rush hour.

There is another one at St Martins, just next to Sunningdale Primary School and yet another at the flyover bridge on Seke Road.

To the powers that be, we are humbly appealing to you to give us a break.

Disgusted,

Zengeza
