EDITOR — The government should have scrapped ZBC’s television and radio licence fees way back.
The government and Information ministry have finally seen the light.
ZBC bosses were milking the public through these unjustified fees.
Honestly, how can someone be forced to pay radio and television licences when the organisation only churns out Zanu PF propaganda.
ZBC has not moved with the times, hence its formerly captive listenership and viewership has moved away and now access a myriad other sources of information and entertainment.
It is hoped that with the scrapping of listener’s licence fees, ZBC will also be forced to improve its programming.
Zimbabweans are only willing to part with their money for fair value.
This is shown by the number of satellite dishes mounted on their homes.
Every month, millions of dollars are externalised by viewers paying for direct satellite television services. ZTV can also tap into this market by being responsive to viewers’ needs.
In some parts of the country, there is no transmission, forcing people to access foreign radio and television stations.
I watch and tune to SABC and other channels and also read independent newspapers because they report objectively without bias.
ZBC should refrain from being used as Zanu PF propaganda machinery.
It should transform itself into a public broadcaster of choice and should serve public interest rather than the political interest of the ruling party. Most people do not listen to their biased reportage.
Imagine one having to watch a whole programme of the so-called professors spewing their Zanu-PF propaganda.
