HARARE - Zimbabwe tennis ace Takanyi Garanganga yesterday coasted into the quarterfinals of the 2014 Royal Lahaina Challenger in United States.
The Zimbabwe Davis Cup player upset Canada’s Frank Dancevic 7-5 6-3 at USTA Pro Circuit event hosted in the state of Hawaii.
Garanganga defeated Dancevic in an hour and 35 minutes with a first serve rate of 49 percent in the first set and 60 present in the second to cruise into his first quarter-final of the year.
The All-Africa Games gold medallist will now meet Tsung-Hua Yang (TPE), who defeated fourth seed Jack Sock and Jamere Jenkins of the US en route to the quarter finals.
The Harare-born tennis star overcame America’s Daniel Kosakowski in a titanic tussle that Garanganga won 2-6 6-4 7-6(5).
