CAPE TOWN - Zimbabwe’s national football team, the Warriors, step into Cape Town Stadium tonight as underdogs when they face a much fancied Mali team in the second quarterfinal of the 2014 Africa Nations Championship.
With five goals scored for the Mali team in the Group stage against only one for the Warriors, one would think it will be a one sided affair. But football being unpredictable, Coach Ian Gorowa’s could have some surprises in stock.
MTNFootball.com spoke to some of the Warriors players and this is what they had to say…
George Chigova: “We are very determined to play this game like a final and I want to try and maintain a clean sheet in the tournament.”
Partson Jaure: “Although we respect Mali as a team, we are also hungry to qualify for the semi-final stage and any team can win this game.”
Felix Chidungwe: “The most important thing will be to work as a team. Mali plays the similar kind of football like Zimbabwe, but we are better in ball speed.”
Ai Sadiki: “I am expecting a win because we are a good side. We are not scared of them because they are not that strong like some people think.”
Hardlife Zvirekwi: “It going to be a very tough match because they are very physical and tactical side. But as defenders we need to stand our ground and continue from where we left and give strikers no space to score.” – mtnfootball.com
