BULAWAYO - Highlanders head coach Kelvin Kaindu is expected in the country today to take charge of the team’s pre-season’s preparations.
This was revealed by Bosso Chairman Peter Dube on the sidelines of the team’s Annual General Meeting at the Highlanders clubhouse at the weekend.
Kaindu has been furthering his coaching knowledge in his native Zambia and also in the United Kingdom and Dube expressed optimism that the coach’s studies will help improve Highlanders’ performance this season.
“I can tell you he (Kaindu) he will be here on Tuesday (today) unless something happens,” Dube said.
“We always say that knowledge is powerful and this is a man who has already been achieving something for us and we can only hope that when he re-joins the team we will continue to improve.”
Kaindu’s former assistant Bekithemba Ndlovu has been helping the new assistant coaches Mark Mathe and Peter Nkomo take the team through their paces in the head coach’s absence but Dube said this arrangement was a temporary measure.
“It should be coming to an end anytime soon, it certainly will not prevail beyond this month,” said Dube.
“It is a handover takeover situation but you must acknowledge that he (Ndlovu) is a Highlanders boy and it must not surprise you one day to find that he continues to be called upon or to have a role in this club.”
Meanwhile, Highlanders secretary Andrew Tapela confirmed the new signings that the Bulawayo giants have secured for the 2014 season.
Tapela said former FC Platinum players Khumbulani Banda, and Welcome Ndiweni were signed on two – year deals together with former Chicken Inn goalie Njabulo Nyoni and ex Shabanie Mine linkman Valentine Ndaba while another former FC Platinum man Joel Ngodzo penned a one – year contract.
Highlanders also retained the services of Vice-captain Eric Mudzingwa, Bruce Kangwa, and Dumisani “Fazo” Ndlovu on two – year deals while Warriors goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya signed for one year.
Tapela said Highlanders were in talks with five potential new signings whose names he did not disclose and added that the club would resume contract renewal negotiations with Warriors players Peter Rio Moyo and Milton Ncube when the duo returns from the Chan tournament in South Africa.
