GWERU - Austin Chishanga has retained the Zifa Midlands chairperson seat after beating Solomon Nyathi in elections conducted in Gweru on Sunday.
Chishanga, who has been at the helm of the Midlands province since 2002, beat Nyathi who is the outgoing treasurer by 12 votes to five in an election conducted at Chaplin High School.
Chishanga, who is the longest serving Zifa councillor after having also served as chairman in Mashonaland West province in the 1990s, has pledged to continue with grassroots development programmes in the province which is the breeding ground for many teams in the premiership in the country.
“I will continue with junior development as I have already stated in my manifesto. We need junior development in all the parts of the province. I can also assure clubs that the two leagues will be branded in this coming season,” said Chishanga.
George Sibangani also retained his post as vice-chairperson unopposed.
Pervious Mathe, who was the secretary in the previous set up was elected board member administration while Asibu Mususa was elected board member finance.
Kwekwe-based Farai Ngulube was voted board member development and Petros Phiri board member in charge of competitions.
In Bulawayo Province veteran administrator, Washington Chimhanda beat the incumbent Horace Ndubiwa to land the chairman’s post with Francis Ntuta landing the vice chairman’s post unopposed.
Mkhululi Mthunzi, Paradzai Matuka, and Sphambaniso Dube were also elected as board members for various portfolios.
